<p>Title: Clinical Nurse Specialist - Geriatrics</p><p><br></p><p>Location: Ottawa, ON, K1K 0T2</p><p><br></p><p>Employment Status: Regular Full-time</p><p><br></p><p>Department: Professional practice</p><p><br></p><p>Hours/Week: 37.50</p><p><br></p><p>Working Hours: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM EST</p><p><br></p><p>Job Details:</p><p>Reporting to the Director of Professional Practice and supporting the Advanced Practice Nurse, the incumbent acts as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in geriatrics. More specifically, they serve as a consultant to patients with dementia who exhibit symptoms and behaviors associated with dementia. The incumbent is able to participate in a partnership between mental health, medical, and geriatric programs for the assessment of patients with complex medical, mental health, and/or behavioral problems.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Advanced clinical practice and consultation </strong></p><p>• To advocate, for or on behalf of clients, nurses and other team members, for the improvement and excellence of healthcare for individuals and the client population within their area of practice;</p><p>• Evaluate and document the results of decisions and interventions;</p><p>• Using various interventions (interpersonal relationships, teaching, coaching, counseling, technological and pharmaceutical) to influence clients' health status and quality of life;</p><p>• Offering consultation services internally, externally, to clinicians, administrators and the entire care team related to the specialty of its sector;</p><p>• Participate in the coordination of the management of complex cases in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and the medical team (Psychogeriatrics, Geriatrics, etc.) in order to minimize the length of stay and maximize the quality of care;</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Education </strong></p><p>• Assess the learning needs of clients and multidisciplinary team members;</p><p>• Develop teaching materials that meet the identified learning needs;</p><p>• Implement appropriate teaching strategies based on needs;</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Leadership </strong></p><p>• Create interdisciplinary champions who are experts in their respective fields and according to the needs of industry practice;</p><p>• To play an advisory role with clients, nurses, professionals, doctors and others in order to improve and support professional practice;</p><p>Research</p><p>• Interpret the research findings and demonstrate their relevance to clinical practice in the sector .</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Requirements profile:</strong></p><p><strong>Education and professional experience</strong></p><p>• Hold a Master of Science in Nursing degree. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing combined with a Master's degree in a related field will also be considered;</p><p>• Hold a valid nursing certificate of competency from the College of Nurses of Ontario;</p><p>• Hold a SIR/BLS certification, recognized by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada ;</p><p>• Possess a minimum of three (3) years of experience in implementing best practices in geriatrics and recent experience with patients with complex medical problems;</p><p>• Possessing knowledge of specialized assessment of delirium, dementia and mental health and knowledge of many best practices in the field;</p><p>• Possess administrative skills (Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, email software);</p><p>• Be able to communicate in both official languages (French and English) at an intermediate level.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>The key skills you leverage </strong></p><p>Client recognizes the importance of a patient-centered approach, made possible through the collaboration of all its employees and the commitment of each individual to providing superior care.
