JOB DESCRIPTION

Messrs. Ian Shang Kuan is looking for a Junior Litigation Associate to join our growing litigation practice.

This role is suitable for a candidate who wants to be seriously trained in litigation, legal strategy, drafting, court preparation, client management and dispute resolution. The successful candidate will work closely with the Managing Partner and will be given meaningful exposure to court matters, legal research, pleadings, cause papers, submissions, client meetings and case strategy.

We are not looking merely for someone to “do files”. We are looking for someone who wants to learn how to think, write, argue, analyse facts, solve problems and develop into a strong litigation lawyer.

The successful candidate will assist in, among others:

Managing litigation files from commencement to disposal;

Drafting pleadings, affidavits, cause papers, written submissions, opinions, letters and other legal documents;

Conducting legal research and preparing case analysis;

Attending case managements, hearings, trials, meetings and client conferences;

Reviewing documents, evidence, court papers and correspondence;

Assisting in trial preparation, witness preparation and litigation strategy;

Liaising with clients, court officers, opposing solicitors and relevant third parties; and

Supporting the Firm’s litigation team in contentious civil, commercial and corporate disputes.

REQUIREMENTS The candidate must possess a recognised law degree and must have been called to the Malaysian Bar or be eligible to practise as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.

Prior litigation experience will be an advantage, but attitude, discipline and willingness to learn are more important.

The ideal candidate should have strong command of English and Bahasa Malaysia, good legal research skills, attention to detail, sound judgment and the ability to work under pressure.

Candidates must be responsible, hardworking, organised, responsive and able to take ownership of assigned work.

Candidates must also be willing to learn, willing to be corrected, able to meet deadlines and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

WHY JOIN US

This is a position for a lawyer who wants proper exposure, responsibility and training.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work directly with the Managing Partner, handle real litigation work, attend court, draft substantive documents and learn the practical side of legal practice beyond textbook law.

You will be trained to become sharper in legal analysis, clearer in drafting, more confident in advocacy and more commercially aware in handling disputes.

Candidates who are ambitious, teachable, resilient and serious about building a career in litigation are encouraged to apply.
